  One of the "top 20 Gallic getaways" (Sunday Times, 6 April 2003). Standing on its own, this two storey farm-house has a lovely rural setting with land stretching down to the beautiful River Vienne. Accommodation is on the ground floor only with the spacious loft keeping the house cool even during the heat of Summer. There are 2 rooms - living room with a corner kitchen and a bedroom, each measuring 6 x 5m. A central corridor leads to the shower room which is built inside a vast attached barn. Well furnished and equipped, the property retains many original features including exposed stone walls and high beamed ceilings. The living room has a wood burning stove, comfortable seating, TV(videos only), dining table and a corner kitchen. Double doors open onto a walled terrace for dining outside overlooking the valley. The double bedroom has been attractively furnished in typical french style. Garden furniture and 2 bicycles are stored in the barn. The river is 6 mins walk away across the owners' fields and although fast flowing, canoeing or paddling are possible from certain points. Swimming is not advised. The medieval market town of Confolens is 12 kms away whilst there is a general store, bar and post office within 3 kms of La Couchadie.

  C1627   "A peaceful, secluded farmhouse with large grounds close to the River Vienne"
  C1625   Charras is located just 25 kms south of Angoulême, near the northern border of the Dordogne, This beautiful property, which has been stylishly and tastefully decorated by the owner, enjoys lovely views across open countryside. Standing alone yet close to the owner's home, the village of Charras with its choice of small shops is within walking distance. The accommodation is divided over two floors, the ground floor comprising 2 bedrooms (1twin, 1double), bathroom, spacious dining area and well equipped, open plan kitchen (dishwasher) and a utility room. The other two bedrooms are upstairs and are open plan with a curtain separating the spacious mezzanine sitting area which has large windows looking out over the church and the village. To the front of the property there is a covered terrace with outside kitchen for dining, whilst overlooking the swimming pool (also shared with the owners, but not normally when gîte occupied). Landscaped and lawned gardens surround the gîte. Nearby is the feudal town of Marthon (10kms) and Villeois-Lavalette with its beautiful château and covered market. The ancient town of Angoulême has a wide choice of specialist shops, restaurants and medieval streets to explore.

  C1626   Situated in the South of the Charente, this stone barn has been renovated in a style which is typical of the region. Attached to the owner's property, Le Bignac, nonetheless enjoys privacy and has independent access and its own private garden. The accommodation is all on one level and in usual french style, comprises a well equipped open plan kitchen/living/dining room, 2 bedrooms and a shower room with separate wc. The furnishings and decorations are to a high standard. Glazed doors open onto the garden where there are table and chairs for outside dining and a barbecue. A swimming pool, which overlooks the vineyards, has recently been built and is shared with the owners and one other gite (see C1629), the pool is open between the hours of 10am and 7pm. Nearby is the lovely château of Talleyrand at Chalais (20kms) and there is a river for swimming in Brossac. This area is ideal for those who enjoy walking in the countryside as there are many walks close by Le Bignac. The Voie verte, or green walks, will take you up to 25 kms away as far as Barbezieux. Nearby, Chevanceaux has everyday shops and restaurants.

C1711 Situated on the tip of the of the island of Ré just off the coast from La Rochelle, Les Portes en Ré is a superb location surrounded by 850 hectares of beaches and marshland which are home to a bird sanctuary. Rouselotte is one of two ground floor studios we have available, comprising 25 square metres plus a private terrace of 15 square metres equipped with garden furniture, sun shades and a barbecue. The accommodation comprises 1 room with a built in kitchen, dining table and chairs, a comfortable sitting area with a television and twin beds plus a spare child's bed and a cot. There is a separate shower room with wc and wash basin and a baby tub. Storage and bicycle racks are available in a secured courtyard and public parking opposite the studio. A full range of shops can be found in the village which is just 150 metres from the property and bicycle rental is available opposite. The beach is only 250 metres away and there is a 9 hole golf course and tennis courts close by.

C1616 The owners have renovated an attractive stone barn into a house for themselves and 4 gites. It has a lovely farm setting in the rolling countryside of the Charente-Limousin region. Chez L'Age is part of a light and airy single storey conversion, with an attractive, comfortable sitting/dining room and well equipped corner kitchen, bathroom and twin bedroom leading out to the communal garden. The property has been well renovated and retains real character with exposed stone walls, beams and open stone fireplace. There are large, well maintained communal gardens and a swimming pool which is fenced and gated. In another part of the barn there is a games room with table tennis for use by the guests. The pool is shared with 'chambre d'hôte' guests and the other gites. One of these gites (C1618 for 6 people) could be booked with C1616 to cater for larger groups. The village of Suaux has a grocery store whilst a wider choice of shops including a supermarket can be found at Chasseneuil-sur-Bonnieure (6 kms).

C1618 The owners have renovated an attractive stone barn into a house for themselves and 4 gites. It has a lovely farm setting in the rolling countryside of the Charente-Limousin region. L'Age is located next to the owner's house in a quiet position. Full of character, the living room is comfortably furnished and has a well equipped kitchen area in one corner. The shower room and separate wc are downstairs. The three bedrooms are upstairs. Outside is a private garden reserved for this property with table and chairs for outside dining. A much larger communal garden, with a swimming pool, is situated amidst the farm buildings. In another part of the barn is a games room with table tennis for use by the guests. The pool is shared with 'chambre d'hôte' guests and the other gites. One of these gites (2-4 people) could be booked with C1618 for a group of up to 10 people. Suaux has a grocery store whilst a wider choice of shops including a supermarket can be found at Chasseneuil-sur-Bonnieure (6 kms).
C1618 "Comfortable gite with shared pool in undulating countryside"
c1710 The owners of 'Chez Durand' converted the ground floor of this former barn in 1990. They have retained all the original character and it now provides comfortably furnished holiday accommodation. The open plan living/dining room has a beamed ceiling and tiled floor with the kitchen area at one end. The living area has a table and chairs, sofa bed and television. The bedroom has one double and single bed (suitable for a small child). Outside is a terrace with barbecue and a beautiful walled garden with swings and trees, shared with the owners and another gite nearby. Bread and some groceries can be purchased from a van which passes by regularly, otherwise the nearest shops are at Montpellier de Medaillon (1 mile) with a wider choice at Cozes, Saintes or Royan. There are beaches at Meschers-sur-Gironde (17 kms) and Royan, or a swimming pool at Meursac (5 kms).
